How is the IT department at Sensirion structured?
The IT department is divided into four teams: Client Services, Infrastructure, Business Applications and SAP. The Client Services team is the point of contact for all Sensirion employees worldwide, providing them with daily assistance and support. Our Infrastructure team is responsible for the company’s entire infrastructure, such as setting up servers, wifi and the VPN. The Business Applications team manages all of our business applications, such as our CRM or intranet. And finally, the SAP team is the expert in all matters concerning SAP. The IT department at Sensirion is therefore very diverse and varied – everyone has their place here.
What are your daily tasks?
As part of the Client Services team, I handle end user tickets using the ticket portal at least one day per week from 8:00 am to 11:45 am and from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. I help users solve their problems or take note of their comments.
I’m also working on the print server migration at the moment: migrating all 150 of the company's printers to a new print server. As part of this migration, I will incorporate a new feature so that new employees will be automatically assigned the appropriate printer(s) based on the position of their workstation. This means that employees can save a lot of time as they won’t have to install the printers, and we at the service desk can eliminate problems before they arise.
As a practical trainer, I am currently supervising two apprentices. Each apprentice undergoes their basic training with me, and depending on their apprenticeship, will later go on to the relevant specialist department. For example, a systems technician spends on average their first year with me and will then go on to gain experience in the Infrastructure team in the relevant specialism.
What makes Sensirion stand out as an employer?
At Sensirion, there is a lot of room for your own ideas and projects. Thanks to the trust placed in employees, everyone is given responsibility at a very early stage, which is why ideas can also be implemented straight away. This means that apprentices can also start new projects and implement them independently.
In addition, there is a very supportive atmosphere between departments and within our team; you can always count on the help and support of your colleagues. In the IT department, we also organize small team events every now and then, such as the fondue evening we are having today at the Sensirion Skybar. This makes working even more enjoyable :)!
